Does Sonic Deliver? Not Everywhere
Every other page answers this with a flat yes. It is wrong for one drive-in in seven. Counted across 3,357 real locations, here is where Sonic delivers and where it does not.
85%

503

69.6%

100%

The short answer
2,854 of 3,357 Sonic drive-ins offer delivery, which is 85%. So 503 do not, and whether yours does is a question about your particular drive-in rather than about Sonic.
Sonic does not employ drivers. Delivery runs through DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and Postmates, so a drive-in delivers when it has signed up with one of them and a driver is free. The Sonic app itself is for ordering ahead and collecting.
What your drive-in actually offers
Three different services, three different coverage figures, counted across every open drive-in. The drive-thru number surprises people: most Sonics do not work like a normal fast food window.

Delivery coverage varies a lot by state
States with at least 25 drive-ins. The gap between the top and the bottom of this list is the reason a flat yes is not a useful answer.

Which apps deliver Sonic
Four, and they do not all cover the same drive-ins. If one shows nothing near you it is worth trying another before concluding Sonic will not deliver to your address.
DoorDash
Uber Eats
Grubhub
Postmates
We do not link out to any of them. Coverage changes constantly and a link that is right today sends somebody to an empty search next month. Open the app you already have and search Sonic Drive-In: it will tell you what is genuinely available at your address right now, which no page can.
Delivery costs more than the menu says
Worth knowing before you order. Two separate things push the total up, and only one of them is obvious.
The menu prices are often higher
Prices inside a delivery app are set independently of what the drive-in charges, and they are commonly marked up. This is the part people miss, because it happens before any fee appears.
Then the fees go on top
A delivery fee, a service fee and a tip stack onto that marked up subtotal. On a small order the fees can approach the food.
These are drive-in prices, from Sonic's own store level data. Compare them against what the app quotes you and the markup shows up immediately.
The cheaper route
Order ahead in the Sonic app instead
If you can get there, ordering ahead removes the delivery fee, the service fee, the tip and the app markup in one go. You order, drive in, park in a stall, and it comes out. Every drive-in has the stalls, so this works everywhere delivery does not.
What the Sonic app gives youHow ordering at Sonic actually works
Worth reading if you have never used one, because Sonic is not laid out like other fast food. Only 69.6% have a drive-thru window. The other 1,021 are stalls, and the stalls are the point of the place.
Pull into a numbered stall
Any free one. There is no queue to join and nobody waves you in. The number on the post is how the kitchen knows which car is yours.
Order from the speaker
Press the red button on the menu board and order when someone answers. You can take as long as you like; nobody is behind you.
Pay and wait in the car
Card at the stall or cash when it arrives. It comes out to you, sometimes on skates, and you eat where you parked.
Or order ahead in the app
Place the order first, drive in, park in a stall and press the button to say you have arrived. It comes straight out, which skips the ordering entirely at a busy time.
Every drive-in in our data has the stalls, so this route works at all 3,357 of them, including the 503 that do not deliver.
What travels well, and what does not
Half of Sonic's menu is frozen or fried, which are the two things that suffer most in a car for twenty minutes. Worth knowing before you build the order.
Holds up fine
- Burgers and coneys, which is what the wrapping is designed for
- Breakfast burritos and Toasters, for the same reason
- Soft drinks, limeades and iced teas over the nugget ice
- Anything you were going to reheat anyway
Order at the drive-in instead
- Slushes, which separate as they melt and cannot be stirred back
- Shakes and Blasts, for the same reason and faster
- Sundaes and anything with soft serve
- Tots and onion rings, which go soft in a sealed bag
None of this is a rule, just what melts. If a slush or a shake is the reason you are ordering, it is worth the trip to the stall.
Delivery only runs while the drive-in is open
Obvious once said, and the reason late night delivery orders fail. A delivery app will happily show Sonic as closed twenty minutes before the kitchen actually stops, because it stops accepting orders it cannot get a driver to in time.
Most drive-ins open at 6 AM and close at midnight, but about half stay open past midnight and some shut at 10 PM, so there is no single cutoff. Fridays and Saturdays run latest.
Sonic opening and closing times, day by daySonic delivery, answered
Does Sonic deliver?
Mostly, but not everywhere. 2,854 of the 3,357 open drive-ins in our data offer delivery, which is 85%, so 503 do not. Sonic does not run its own drivers: delivery is handled by the third party apps, so whether your local one delivers depends on that drive-in signing up.
Which apps deliver Sonic?
DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and Postmates are the ones Sonic works with. Which of them covers you depends on your drive-in and your address, so if one shows nothing it is worth checking another before deciding Sonic does not deliver to you.
Can I order delivery in the Sonic app?
The Sonic app is built around ordering ahead and picking up rather than delivery. You place the order, drive in, and it is ready. For delivery you go to one of the third party apps instead. That is also why ordering ahead is cheaper: no delivery fee, no service fee, no tip.
Why is Sonic more expensive on DoorDash?
Two separate things stack up. Menu prices inside a delivery app are often set higher than the drive-in charges, and then the delivery fee, the service fee and the tip go on top of that. The prices on this site are what the drive-in charges, which is the number to compare against.
Does Sonic have a drive-thru?
Some do. 2,336 of 3,357 have one, about 69.6%. The rest are the classic layout: you pull into a stall, order from the speaker, and it comes out to the car. That is curbside service, and every drive-in in our data has it.
Is it cheaper to order ahead than to get Sonic delivered?
Yes, and by more than people expect. Ordering ahead in the Sonic app has no delivery fee, no service fee and no tip, and it uses the drive-in's own prices rather than the marked up ones inside a delivery app. You park in a stall and it comes out to the car.
Do Sonic slushes and shakes survive delivery?
Not well. A slush separates as it melts and will not stir back together, and a shake or a Blast goes the same way faster. Burgers, coneys and the breakfast items travel fine. If a frozen drink is the reason you are ordering, it is worth going to the stall.
How do I find out if my Sonic delivers?
Search your city on our locations pages for the drive-in's own phone number and hours, then check one of the delivery apps with your address. The apps are the authority on whether they will bring it to your door today, because coverage moves with driver availability as well as with which stores signed up.
