What the Shark Week Slush actually was
Sonic described it as an icy blue coconut flavoured Slush, topped with a layer of real strawberries and shark gummy candies. The gummy sharks were the whole idea: a blue drink with a red layer and sweets floating in it, made to look like the thing on television that week. Sonic also put part of the proceeds toward local public schools through its Limeades for Learning programme.

Making a Shark Week Slush at home
Since no drive-in will make you one, this is the other way to get it, and it is the gummy sharks that do most of the work. Four things, one blender.
Blue raspberry sports drink
About a cup. This is the shortcut to the colour and the flavour in one, and it freezes softer than squash or cordial.
Pebble ice
About a cup. The soft chewable kind Sonic uses. Cubed ice blends coarse and melts to water much faster.
Frozen strawberries
Half a cup, blended in or spooned on top depending on whether you want the layer Sonic had.
Gummy sharks
Two or three, added last. The whole look of the original drink came from these.
Blend the drink and the ice until it pours rather than scoops, then layer the strawberries and drop the sharks on top so they sit where you can see them.

The idea stayed on the menu
