01

What a Sonic Refresher Actually Is

It is Sonic's fruit drink line, built around real fruit pieces rather than a flavored syrup poured over ice, and it comes in 4 flavors: Berry Citrus, Mango Peach, Strawberry Passion Fruit and Watermelon Peach. What trips people up is that "Refresher" is not one drink, it is a name shared by three, and the menu board rarely explains which is which before you have already ordered.

02

Regular vs. Sparkling vs. Frozen

Regular is the drink poured over ice, still and fruit-forward. Sparkling is the same flavor with carbonation added, closer to a fruit soda than a still drink. Frozen is blended with ice into a slush-like texture rather than served over it, and that change in texture is also a real change in calories: blending concentrates more of the drink into the same size cup than pouring it over cubes does.

The one flavor that breaks the pattern

For three of the four flavors, Regular and Sparkling land close together on calories, and Frozen runs noticeably higher. Watermelon Peach does not follow that: its Regular is a genuinely light 40 calories, well under the others, which makes its jump to Frozen the largest proportional increase on the whole board, 5.5× rather than roughly double.

03

Refreshers vs. Slushes: Not the Same Drink

They sit next to each other on the drinks board and both come frozen, which is exactly why they get mixed up. A Slush is built on flavored syrup and shaved ice, no fruit in it at all. A Refresher, even the Frozen version, is built around actual fruit pieces blended through it. If you can see flecks of fruit in the cup, it is a Refresher; if the color is uniform all the way through, it is a Slush.

06

All 4 Flavors, One at a Time

"Mango refresher" gets searched more than the other three flavor names put together, which is worth saying plainly since nothing about the menu board itself signals that Mango Peach is more popular than the rest. It is not a limited flavor or a seasonal add-on, it sits in the same lineup and comes in the same three styles as everything else on this page. Here is where each flavor actually lands.

Refreshers Are Half Price at Happy Hour Too

Refreshers are filed under drinks, which is exactly what Sonic's 2 to 4 PM discount covers, alongside every slush and fountain drink on the menu. Nothing special has to be requested and no separate code applies, the same automatic half price rule that works on a Cherry Limeade works here too.

Questions People Ask About Sonic Refreshers

What is a Sonic Refresher?

A fruit-flavored drink built around real fruit pieces rather than a syrup base, sold in 3 different forms and 4 flavors. It sits apart from the slush and limeade lines as its own family on the menu, and most drive-ins carry all of it.

What is the difference between a Sonic Refresher and a Sparkling Refresher?

Mostly the carbonation and the calorie count, which run close together for three of the four flavors. Watermelon Peach is the exception, priced and counted differently from the other three, which is covered in detail below.

What is a Frozen Refresher at Sonic?

The same flavor blended with ice into a slushy texture instead of served over cubes. It is also the highest-calorie version of every flavor, since blending in that much ice concentrates more of the drink into the cup than a poured version does.

How many calories is a Sonic Refresher?

It depends entirely on which of the 12 you order. The lightest is the Watermelon Peach Refresher at 40 calories, and the heaviest is the Berry Citrus Frozen Refresher at 230.

What flavors do Sonic Refreshers come in?

Berry Citrus, Mango Peach, Strawberry Passion Fruit, Watermelon Peach, 4 in total, each available in all 3 styles.

Is the Mango Peach Refresher good?

That is a taste question this site will not pretend to answer for you, but it is the flavor people search for by name more than the other three combined, so it is worth knowing it comes in the same three styles as the rest of the lineup rather than being a special or limited item.

How much does a Sonic Refresher cost?

$2.99 to $3.49 depending on flavor and style. The Watermelon Peach Refresher is the cheapest on the board; full pricing for all 12 is below.
